Travel Tips and Directions
Bear Creek Park is on the west side of Houston approximately 15 miles from the downtown area. Speed limits in the park are 20 and 25 mph. If you choose to park on the race loop your auto(s) will NOT be able to depart until all races are complete. The loop is one way. Do not park in lot by the finish line, the one lot prior (south), and at the entrance of the loop as it is part of the course. Police will block the loop prior to 8 AM. There are parking spaces walking and skating distance to the race loop. The race site has a permanent restroom facility that can be accessed on skates. There are picnic tables and charcoal grills that are available for all to use throughout the day. There are two covered pavilions with benches, tables, and electricity. Pop-up tents are welcome. There are several playground areas in various locations in the park in addition to a small zoo and other amenities. If you skate elsewhere in the park do so wisely on these roads such as signal to autos, keep eyes open for pedestrians and pets. Be prepared to stop at intersections.
Houston has two major airports. Bush Intercontinental (IAH) to the north and Hobby (HOU) to the southeast. Bear Creek Park is a 2 hour drive from Austin's main airport and 3-4 hours from Dallas/Ft. Worth. Houston is the fourth largest city in the United States.
Beltway 8 is a toll road. There are attendants in which to pay cash if your auto is not equipped with a EZTag. This is a convenient highway from Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) to the race area.
